ST. GORETTI ACADEMY
st. maria goretti was a young woman in the early 1900's. a man tried to rape her, but she stated she'd rather die than be violated. so, the man stabbed her and left her to die. when maria was in the hospital, fighting for survival, she forgave the man who had done this to her, and died in peace. later, the man was convicted and was 'visited' by maria goretti. this changed his life, and when he was released, he immediately went to the family of maria begging for forgiveness. in the 1950's, the man who killed her campaigned for her to be named a saint; the campaign was successful, and the woman who forgave her killer became a symbol of forgiveness and purity.
now, you may ask what that little history of our namesake has to do with anything. well, this boarding school is a safe haven for those with physical, mental, sexual, or verbal abusers. our school isn't necessarily religious, but it is a safe haven for those who need it. all of our applicants are paid for, if accepted, by a generous and nameless source.
these young adults are given a second chance to forgive and grow from their experiences through therapy sessions, alone and in groups. the school is small and close; fights do happen but are generally taken care of by the administration. the close knit community of our school is definitely what makes it special though; the towns people and shops appreciate what the school is doing and supports our school as much as possible.
every student lives on campus and share a room with two to three other students. as well as having a mess hall, the students are given a kitchenette in their dorm to begin growing up and taking care of themselves. the dorms are not co-ed, and strict rules are enforced by security.
all in all, this school gives its' students a one in a lifetime chance to escape the heartless voices that have been haunting them their whole lives.
